Dukhini is about the evil practice of trafficking of women. The women are lured, deceived, abducted from poor rural areas of Bangladesh and brought to Pakistan. They are sold as wives maids or prostitutes sometimes through open auction. They have no legal protection and are vulnerable to exploitation by police & law-enforcing authorities. But Dukhini is also about the broader issue of trafficking of women and highlights the socio-economic factors behind this practice and expose the callousness and apathy of the concerned governments. Not only that the play also deals with the overall issue of migration and attempts to make its audience more aware and more sympathetic to this issue. IDukhinil was the first-ever collaboration between artists from Pakistan and Bangladesh who spoke different languages and had a different cultural and theatrical background but they had the same commitment to art and human rights.
